I took an exam and guessed at a third of it

Last Saturday I took a certification exam. I only studied on the way to work, so I had to guess at a third of the questions.

This is the entry retold in plain words. The sentences the author wrote are on the other side of the switch.

Last Saturday I took an exam.

It is a certification for working with data. Passing it is a way of showing that you can do that kind of work. This was the written test, which is the first of its two stages.

About a third of the questions I did not know, so I guessed.

I had not studied much

The reason is simple. I did not put in many hours.

The score is not out yet. But how much I had prepared was something I already knew before I walked out of the exam room.

There was only one place where studying happened

I wrote something down on this site two weeks ago. I carry three books in my bag, one of them was this exam's textbook, and the only studying I did was on the way to and from work. That trip is the one time in the day when nobody interrupts me.

But there were three books sharing that one stretch of time. I put three books in one slot and hoped it would add up to passing an exam. It does not add up that way.

There was empty time and I did not use it

The same entry says something else too. An injury stopped my morning exercise, and that time is sitting empty.

The exam came after that. The morning is still empty. There was one place a day to move the studying into, and I did not move it.

Next time

Whether I take it again depends on the score. What I need to decide is not "how much to study" but "when to study."
